Start the year off fresh and book an appointment with us to review your pet’s health! Adult pets should have a complete veterinary exam at least once per year while puppies, kittens, and pets over 7 years of age should have more frequent visits.

- Train your dog to use winter booties to protect their paws
- Take shorter walks or stay indoors when the temperature drops too low

For the best photos, try taking them near a window or door to use natural light, take the photo at your pet’s eye level, and use your pet’s favourite toy or treats to grab their attention and get them to focus on the camera. Daylight Savings Time is coming up this Sunday! To get your pet ready, start moving their daily routines forward by 10 minutes each day so that on the big day, they’ll already be adjusted to the new time. Routines to consider are daily walks, medications, playtime, food, and grooming.

Yep, you heard right. It’s an entire day to celebrate our puppies!
If you’ve just gotten a puppy or are thinking about getting one, here are some tips on how to help them grow into a well-adjusted adult dog:
🐶 Get your puppy used to being around others such as people of different ages and ethnicities, and animals like other dogs, cats, and farm animals
🐶 Get your puppy used to different experiences such as sounds like alarms and loud vehicles, and transportation methods like bikes and skateboards
🐶 Pay attention to your puppy’s reactions to these new experiences

Hiking Tips
Ready to hit the trails with your furry friend? Here are some tips to consider before heading out:
- Examine your dog to assess their fitness level
- Verify if there is tick activity in the region and check your dog thoroughly for ticks when returning home (they can be as small as a poppy seed!)
- Pack water, treats, a pet first aid kit and bags to clean up after your pet

Leptospirosis Awareness Post
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease that causes serious illness in dogs, other animals, and people in Canada and around the world. This disease is caused by bacteria which live in water or warm, wet soil. Dogs can become infected when drinking or swimming in contaminated water. Symptoms may include fever, loss of appetite, loss of energy, vomiting, diarrhea and increased drinking and urination. As Canadians we come together on this day and remember those who have served our country. Did you know a variety of animals have served in wartimes as well?
For example, pigeons were used as messengers, horses transported all kinds of things from troops to supplies, and dogs served as bomb detectors and search & rescue workers. An Animals in War dedication statue was even unveiled in 2012 in Ottawa’s Confederation Park!
